From Bishop Joseph O. Michieka, Foursquare Kenya

Greetings in the Name of Lord Jesus Christ. First I want to thank the church in the U.S. for the great support they assisted some of our churches in Kenya in time of famine. This has caused a great impact to the affected area. I visited recently Meru district and Nanyuki as follow-up to the great impact in the church in Meru.

The people who received the cows for milk could not hide the smile on their faces as this changed their lives. This makes me appreciate what the international mission (FMI) is doing, changing the lives of many. On behalf of the people in Kenya, we thank you so much and are praying for you. May the Lord God shower you with heavenly blessing.

Chad Isenhart, field representative of Foursquare Relief and Compassion reports from Kenya: “I recently met with Foursquare National Leader Bishop Joseph Michieka and his board of leaders, each representing the needs of their churches and communities. The need for food and water is serious. Pastoralists and farmers cannot irrigate their lands, causing crops and animals to die. The global rise in food prices and fuel, combined with the lack of rain throughout Kenya has crippled the country. To make things worse, refugee families from Somalia are flooding across the Kenya border, 80% of those being women and children with 1-in-3 children suffering from malnutrition.”

August 2011

The most severe drought in decades is threatening the lives of more than 11 million people — especially young children — in East Africa. Famine has been declared in parts of southern Somalia, and threatens to spread further if nothing is done to prevent it. Kenya and Ethiopia are also severely affected by the crisis, with millions in critical need of food and water.
Insufficient rains have created drought conditions throughout East Africa destroying crops and killing livestock. Malnutrition and disease are on the rise as families travel long distances in search of food. Record high food prices, internal conflicts, and insecurity in the region further exacerbate the situation.
Thousand of refugees are pouring across the border to Kenya and surrounding countries in a desperate effort to survive. Foursquare Relief and Compassion in partnership with the Foursquare leaders in Kenya are responding by raising awareness and support to provide aid to those who need it most in this area.
Foursquare Relief and Compassion Project Director Ted Vail and Relief and Compassion Assesment Coordinator Chad Isenhart are working closely with Humberto Paz our Area Missionary to Africa and the leaders of the Kenyan Foursquare church to strategically reach those affected by this tragedy in East Africa.
Plans to provide essential food and water are underway at this time through our Kenyan Foursquare family. In Somalia, where we currently do not have a Foursquare presence, we will be working through our partnership organizations to assess needs and respond as we are able.
Join us as we pray for the millions suffering in East Africa. Please do support our efforts to reach these affected peoples. Your financial gifts will provide food and essentials to those who are in critical need of aid at this time, and enable us to reach people with the tangible love and compassion of Jesus Christ in this most urgent hour.
