The earthquake that hit Haiti on January 12th, 2010 lasted only 35 seconds but it nearly devastated a nation. It is estimated that more than 200,000 people died and about a million are now homeless as a result of this tragedy.
Foursquare Relief and Compassion mobilized immediately following this tragic event by partnering with first responders on the ground, then by sending a team to set up a base camp that is serving as the central point of support for the Foursquare Haiti churches and people. The rebuilding and restoration of Haiti is nearly incomprehensible yet rebuilding and restoration is most certainly happening today in the Haitian Foursquare churches.
Since January 12th we have:
• Set up a base camp that serves as a central location for aid workers.
• Begun sending medical, construction and compassion teams to assist with the work there
• Each week the Foursquare Haiti churches are providing meals to 500 people
• ESL classes are being taught each week
• Partnered with several compassion organizations to better serve the Haitian people such as Convoy of Hope, and several orphanages.
• Construction is in process for the rebuilding of the church as well as homes for those who lost theirs in the earthquake
• Tents are given out weekly to those who have no shelter
The work in Haiti is well underway but the rebuilding process will take many years, already the camera crews have faded and Haiti is hardly mentioned in the media but the needs of the Hatian people are extensive and ongoing. Your partnership with us is vital and essential to the rebuilding process for Haiti.
